Twelve riverside ceremony spots that don't need a permit
Brisbane City Council requires a permit for most public reserves — but not all of them, and not always. Here is where you can legally stand and say your vows without paperwork.
What we found
Every figure below comes from couples who married in Brisbane between March 2025 and March 2026. Where a range is given, it covers the middle 80 per cent of responses.
The single biggest lever is the day of the week. A Friday or Sunday wedding at the same venue, with the same guest count, came in an average of 22 per cent cheaper than the Saturday equivalent.
Where the money goes
- Venue and catering: roughly half the total
- Photography and film: 12 to 18 per cent
- Flowers and styling: 8 to 14 per cent
None of this is prescriptive. It is simply what people told us they spent.
