Now over here at BBW HQ, we are a little obsessed by Gossip Girl, the OC and a whole host of other TV shows and that got us to thinking about our favourite TV weddings. So we’ve been through the archives and pulled all the details we could find (plus some fab photos) on our Top 10 Favourite TV Weddings.
Blair Waldorf-Bass and Chuck Bass (Gossip Girl)
Well, we had to start with Blair and Chuck. After 6 seasons of will-they, won’t-they, Blair and Chuck finally got married by the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park with Cyrus Rose as their officiant. Surrounded by family and friends, Blair wore a beautiful blue long sleeved Elie Saab gown, whilst Chuck looked dapper in a Martin Greenfield custom tux. They exchanged vows and a Hollywood kiss right before being arrested by the NYPD. Five years later, they are still happily married and have a three year old son, Henry.
Summer Roberts and Seth Cohen (The O.C)
It took 4 seasons, a kissing booth, 3000 miles and the death of Marissa for Seth and Summer to finally say I Do. We can assume by the age of Sophie that both Summer and Seth have graduated college and perhaps even live in Berkeley. The wedding was held in the backyard of the Cohen’s Berkeley House, with Ryan acting as Best Man and Taylor as Bridesmaid. Summer wore a custom made gown whilst Seth looked dapper in a black tux, white shirt and black tie. According to fan fiction, Summer got pregnant on their Tahitian honeymoon and they had a little girl. They named her Marissa Cohen.
Monica Geller and Chandler Bing (Friends)
The road to the altar for Monica and Chandler wasn’t easy. They got together in London, kept it a secret for months before finally being outed, Chandler freaked out about Richard after which they proposed to each other by candlelight. Then there was the dress shop rage, Chandler having another freak-out the day of the wedding and who can forget the Who’s pregnant drama?! They were finally married at the Pierre Hotel in NYC by Joey in his WW1 uniform. Monica wore a simple gown by House of Bianchi and Chandler wore a classic black tux. After their wedding, they tried to get pregnant, couldn’t and so chose adoption. Jack and Erica are born in the series finale as the entire family prepares to move to Westchester.
Peyton Sawyer and Lucas Scott (One Tree Hill)
Lucas had loved Peyton since 8th Grade. And it took them a near wedding in Vegas and a complicated pregnancy to get them down the aisle, but in Season 6, get married they did – by the lake where Lucas had first said “hello” to Peyton. Hayley officiated whilst Brooke was Peyton’s bridesmaid and Nathan Lucas’ Best Man. Peyton looked stunning in her tea length strapless dress whilst Lucas wore a suit by Hugo Boss. After their wedding, Peyton collapses and needs a C-Section to give birth to their daughter, Sawyer, after which she slips into a coma. After waking up, Peyton, Lucas and Sawyer leave Tree Hill to start a new life travelling the world.
Carrie Bradshaw and John James Preston (Sex and the City)
If ever there was a drawn out, agonising love affair, Carrie and Big has to be it. 10 years and by the end of the actual series, they still weren’t married! It took a film to make that happen. And even then it wasn’t exactly straightforward. Remember the wedding that wasn’t to be at the New York Public Library? And that Vivienne Westwood dress with the feather? After 10 years and 2 hours, Carried and Big finally said I do at City Hall. And it was beautiful in its simplicity. The tailored skirt and jacket with THOSE Manolo Blahnik shoes and Big in a black suit and white tie.
Izzie Stevens and Alex Karev (Grey’s Anatomy)
Who can forget Izzie and Alex’s wedding. When Meredith and Derek finally agree to get married, Izzie goes into bridezilla mode – planning everything. And with her having a brain tumour, no one could say no. Izzie organised the wedding of her dreams for Meredith and Derek but in the end, Izzie and Alex take the plunge instead. Izzie wore the stunning Lana by Amsale, her hair curled and pinned with simple flowers, whilst Alex wore a dark suit with an ice blue tie waistcoat. In the end, it wasn’t to be. Izzie left Alex telling him he’d be better off in Season 6. Meredith and Derek, however, do get married. On Post-Its.
Lady Mary and Matthew CRAWLY (Downton Abbey)
Oh, the back and forth of Lady Mary and Matthew made us want to throttle her, but in the end, she married for love. In possibly the most beautiful pre-war wedding ever aired, Mary and Matthew married in the Church in Downton Village. Mary’s dress and veil made us all wish for 1920 and the look between her and Matthew made all our hearts melt. Sadly, Matthew died in 1921, the day after his son George was born
And last but not least…the most amazing wedding to be aired on TV this century…
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge (Catherine Middleton)
We spent months wondering who Catherine would wear, how she would have her hair and which tiara she would wear. And on 29th April 2011, we all watched, glued to our screens, as a fairytale really did come true. Catherine wore a long-sleeved lace and satin gown made by Sarah Burton, the halo tiara loaned to her by the Queen, lace shoes and veil whilst Prince William wore the uniform of the Irish Guards as their Commander-in-Chief, with a blue sash to symbolise his job as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot. After their wedding, they went on honeymoon to Seychelles followed by their first official Royal Tour of Canada and the US. Their son, Prince George, was born on July 22 2013 at the Lido Wing in London. Now we can’t wait for their tour of Australia in April!
Now that is the look of true love!
